Live Tutor is a versatile study tool that helps to connect students with specialist teachers in a number of different subject areas for a variety of different types of study support. With the power completely in the student’s hands to determine the length of the session, the subject and topic covered and the style of the class, we really enjoyed learning our way around the features of Live Tutor. Having been featured on the BBC and in the Evening Standard and Daily Express, you might even have heard of Live Tutor before… read on to find out everything you need to know about this customisable study-aid.
Live Tutor was founded by teachers for the benefit of those students who need a little extra support with their school work and for parents who find that, no matter how hard they try, they don’t quite have the time or expertise to help their children in a way a dedicated teacher can. With this in mind, Live Tutor is student-focused, allowing the student to dictate almost everything about a session and the way they engage with the resources. Students can opt to have a one-on-one session with a tutor in order to address specific issues or work through a difficult problem; attend a group lesson where other students struggling with the same problem or topic can also log on and receive generalised support, or simply opt for ‘homework help’, whereby students can communicate quickly and easily with a tutor using instant messaging. This final type of contact gives even students who are less confident the opportunity to gain something from Live Tutor’s collective expertise.
All tutors with Live Tutor are fully qualified teachers who hold (at the very least) a UK-recognised degree and a teaching qualification. In all cases, all tutors have full CRB checks and are fully referenced, ensuring the safety of children throughout the tutoring process. Although the tutors themselves are experienced and offer high quality services, the subject coverage is a little hit and miss and this may put some students off using the service. Students can receive tuition for the 11+, GCSEs and ALevels in an unusual range of subjects (Science, Maths, French, Spanish, Elocution and CV Reviewing). Call us old fashioned, but we couldn’t help but feel that there were a few key subjects missing from the line-up here!
The pricing structure at Live Tutor is reasonable, giving students control over how much they spend. One-to-one tutoring is offered from £21 per hour, whilst homework help and group lessons are charged from £10.50 a session, depending on length and complexity. This makes the service easily more affordable than private tutoring, which can cost upwards of £30 per hour. If you’re still not sure whether this service is right for you or your child, prospective students can check out a taster session or free thirty-minute lesson to get to grips with exactly what is offered by the service. Once you sit down to your first webcam tutor session, we’re sure you won’t look back!
