TutorHub does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin – it provides a place for students of all ages to find a tutor in almost any subject, and a place for tutors to advertise themselves and find new students. As well as simply linking students with appropriate tutors however, TutorHub also helps tutors and students by providing them with all of the necessary tools and technology to conduct great online tutorials from their comfort of their own home. These e-tutorials are becoming increasingly popular, providing students with great quality tuition in a ‘virtual classroom’ environment that’s perfect for learning. If you’re looking for a tutor in a particular subject area, TutorHub could well be the perfect place to find what you’re looking for!
Finding the right tutor for your child is easy and straightforward. All tutors listed with TutorHub have a kind of ‘personal profile’ that gives those interested in their services all of the information they need to know about their expertise, teaching experience, qualifications and more. Once you have selected a tutor you can discuss with that tutor individually the details regarding when the sessions will take place and for how long they will last. On a periodical basis, tutors can be contacted to discuss the precise content of a tutorial too, so as to maximise the impact of classes and focus them on your child’s particular needs. All sessions take place through instant messaging, and, at the end of any class, the session is available to be downloaded in text format for easy revision. Although the instant messaging format does work well, especially for older children, this may not be ideal for younger children or those who lack the confidence to learn by independent questioning.
Unlike other services we have reviewed in this category, TutorHub simply provides a portal for students and tutors to link up, and does not actually employ tutors directly. Although tutors are vetted by the service, it is worth noting that TutorHub has considerably less control over those using their service than other services we have reviewed in this category and does not, for example insist upon having a completed CRB check as part of the application process. In this sense, the responsibility is very much on parents to ensure that a particular tutor provides the appropriate paperwork and certification to ensure child safety.
TutorHub is a great service that helps parents and young people find tutors in almost every subject area. With more than 1500 students currently using the service, and more than 100 tutors registered, we’re sure that you’ll be able to find a tutor with the appropriate expertise to help you out with your educational needs, especially if the subject in question is part of the national curriculum. While some care should be taken when selecting tutors, all classes are taken on a pay-by-the-minute basis, so even if you change your mind about a particular tutor, there’s no obligation to pay for a set number of hours tuition.
